'Manifest' Season 4 Release Date: Will There Be Another Season on NBC?

Manifest will air its two-part season finale on June 10, which is sure to provide plenty of twists in the tale of what happened to Flight 828. Like that flight at the start of the show, however, the future of the NBC show is very much up in the air.

NBC has renewed many of its shows for the 2021 to 2022 TV season, including The Blacklist, the three Chicago shows and Young Rock. Manifest, however, is not yet among them.

Here's what we know about the chances of the mystery drama getting a season 4.

Will there be another season of Manifest?

The last time NBC spoke about the future of the show was at the end of May.

The show is produced by Warner Bros. Television Group, whose chairman, Channing Dungey, told Deadline, "We would love for the show to continue on NBC...We are still in conversations with NBC and keeping our fingers crossed."

The show has a powerful ally on its side in the form of Susan Rovner. The TV executive sold the show to NBC when she was working at Warner Bros, and as the new chairman of entertainment content at NBCUniversal, will now make the call about the future of the show.

However, the future of the show is still uncertain.

Per TV Line's guide to the renewals of 2021, Manifest, "could go either way." Deadline reports that the show could get a fourth season with some "flexible deal-making and concessions."

In terms of ratings, the show is right in the middle of the NBC rankings. Among the demographic of people aged 18-to-49, which is key to advertisers, Manifest is ninth of the network's 19 scripted shows. In the overall ratings, the show fares less well at 11 out of 19.

Across Season 3, the show lost around 20 percent of its overall audience, and 29 percent of its audience among the 18-to-49 demographic. However, it performed better than freshman comedies Young Rock and Kenan, both of which got renewed—though they are much cheaper to produce than the high-concept mystery of Manifest.

Previously, showrunner Jeff Rake has said he has a six-season plan for the show.

During a 2020 Television Critics Association panel, he said: "I pitched it, as someone who didn't have a previous serialized show before, with a roadmap and clear chapters along the way.

"We don't always know the number of episodes we get per season, so we roll with the punches. But the show wants to be six seasons."

Other shows that have been canceled by NBC this season include new show Debris, as well as cult favorite Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist.

Newsweek has reached out to NBC for comment on the future of the show, and will update this article when we get a response.

Manifest Season 3 is streaming now on Hulu and Peacock. The season finale airs Thursday, June 10, at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on NBC.
