Melania Trump's Spokesperson Defends Ivanka Trump, Denounces Samantha Bee's C-Word Comment

First Lady Melania Trump, through a spokesperson, came to Ivanka Trump's defense on Thursday after late-night comedian Samantha Bee called the first daughter a "feckless c--t" for posting a photo with her youngest child amid controversy over the separation of migrant children from their parents.

"The double standard is truly astounding," the first lady's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told Newsweek in an email Thursday. "Time and again the Trump family and members of this Administration are subjected to false reporting, hateful rhetoric and outrageous lies all in the name of freedom of speech or comedy, yet the mainstream media stays silent."

Grisham's comment on behalf of Melania Trump comes a day after the first lady broke a 20-day absence from the public that began with a kidney procedure, by tweeting, "the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing. Rest assured, I'm here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!"

Many social media users cast doubt on whether the first lady actually authored the tweet, as several conspiracy theories spread, including one claiming she moved back to New York City.

Ivanka Trump's eldest brother Donald Trump Jr. also brought up a "double standard" and ex-President Barack Obama's daughters in a tweet.

Good thing there’s no double standard🙄 imagine someone... anyone ... said this about Michelle Obama or the Obama girls? You think they’d still have a TV show? 🤔

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, in a statement similar to Melania Trump's, called on the broadcasters of Bee's show Full Frontal to take action.

"The language used by Samantha Bee last night is vile and vicious. The collective silence by the left and its media allies is appalling," Sanders told The Wrap. "Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network."

Both Bee and TBS on Thursday issued statements apologizing for her words.

"I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night," Bee stated. "It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it."

"Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night," TBS stated. "Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it."
