Michael Flynn Has 'Lock Him Up' and 'USA' Screamed at Him as He Leaves Courthouse

As he exited a Washington, D.C. courthouse on Tuesday, Michael Flynn—the former national security adviser to President Donald Trump—heard a chant familiar to all supporters of Trump, albeit with a slight change.

The retired Army lieutenant general was serenaded with chants of "Lock him up!"

That was, of course, meant to mimic the "lock her up" chants often directed at former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton at the behest of Trump.

As Flynn left, there were also chants of "U-S-A, U-S-A."

Flynn—who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia and role as lobbyist for Turkey—had his sentencing delayed in court on Tuesday because he's continuing his cooperation with special counsel Robert Mueller in a different case in Virginia.

Judge Emmet Sullivan was blunt in his assessment of Flynn's actions on Monday.

"Arguably you sold your country out," he said. "I'm not hiding my disgust, my disdain for this criminal offense."

Despite Flynn's cooperation with the special counsel, Trump threw his support behind his former national security adviser on Tuesday.

"Good luck today in court to General Michael Flynn," the president tweeted. "Will be interesting to see what he has to say, despite tremendous pressure being put on him, about Russian Collusion in our great and, obviously, highly successful political campaign. There was no Collusion!"

Being the subject of "lock him up" chants is an interesting twist of fate, considering Flynn himself once led a high-profile "lock her up" chant at the 2016 Republican National Convention. He slammed Clinton over her use of a personal email server.

"We do not need a reckless president who believes she is above the law," he said, which sparked sparse chants from the cheering crowd. "Lock her up, that's right. Lock her up!"

He clapped as the chants grew and said, "I tell you what, it's unbelievable."
