Newt Gingrich Calls Kamala Harris 'Dumbest' Vice President Ever

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich said Vice President Kamala Harris is the "dumbest person" ever to hold that office and suggested she should never leave her residence.

Gingrich, a Republican who served as speaker from 1995 to 1999, told Fox News' Sean Hannity on Monday that Harris' performance was a "strong reason" to pray for the health of President Joe Biden.

Harris would succeed to the presidency if Biden, 79, were to pass away in office.

The comments come after Harris delivered a speech in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, on Monday where she repeated the phrase "talking about the significance of the passage of time," leading to some criticism. It was also reported on Monday that a national security adviser to Harris will leave her role.

Hannity showed a clip from Harris' Monday speech and highlighted a New York Post report about the departure of National Security Adviser Nancy McEldowney before turning to Gingrich.

'Totally Incoherent'

Gingrich began by saying that the vice president was a "strong reason to pray for the health of the president of the United States," calling Harris "totally incoherent."

"You know, he [Biden] may or may not have cognitive decline problems at his age, but at her age, she's just dumb," Gingrich said. "Let's be clear, Kamala Harris may be the dumbest person ever elected vice president in American history and that's why people keeping resigning."

Critics of Biden, including some Republican members of Congress, have suggested that the president is suffering from cognitive decline. Harris has experienced an exodus of staff from her office since December, 2021, including her chief spokesperson and senior adviser Symone Sanders.

Gingrich went on: "If you were her national security adviser, and you were competent, and you'd worked hard, and you knew what you were doing, and you watched her in Poland break-up laughing when she's asked about Ukrainian refugees, you had to feel a sense of total humiliation."

"So I'm not surprised that that particular adviser resigned because it's very clear that Kamala Harris should never, ever be allowed to leave the country," he said.

Gingrich was referring to a March 10 press conference that Harris held with Polish President Andrzej Duda. A reporter from NPR asked two questions, one for Harris and one for the Polish president, and the pair briefly laughed about who should answer first.

Harris' laugh was later taken out of context and used to criticize her, according to a Reuters fact check.

The former speaker went on to suggest that Harris should stay in the Naval Observatory, the vice president's residence.

"She probably shouldn't be allowed to leave the Naval Observatory," Gingrich told Hannity, adding she is "a constant danger to herself and to the rest of us."

Newsweek has asked Vice President Harris' office for comment.
