Nintendo E3 2018 Schedule Released: Super Smash Bros. Gets Spotlight

With E3 2018 less than two months away, Nintendo released the schedule for its previously announced Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. tournaments and its highly-anticipated video presentation of upcoming Switch titles.

“Every year we take a look at E3 and craft the best experience for our fans, regardless of whether they are attending the show or watching from afar,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing in a press release. “We expect that each of our E3 activities will give an additional boost to the already strong momentum enjoyed by Nintendo Switch.”

The festivities will begin June 11 with the qualifying rounds for both Nintendo Switch tournaments before the show and news really begin on June 12.

Nintendo’s video presentations have become quite common with its Directs released throughout the year but at E3 is when the company pulls out all the stops and surprises fans.

On June 12, starting at 12 p.m. EDT Nintendo’s E3 2018 video presentation will begin. Nintendo’s upcoming slate of Switch games will be shown with the recently announced Super Smash Bros. getting the spotlight, in the same way The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey received the last two years.

Following the video presentation, Nintendo Treehouse: Live will begin its three-day broadcast with more gameplay and appearances from developers.

On Monday, June 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. EDT, qualifying teams representing the United States/Canada, Japan, Europe and Australia/New Zealand will start the opening rounds of the Splatoon 2 World Championship tournament. The finals will take place the following day on Tuesday, June 12, immediately followed by the Super Smash Bros. Invitational 2018 tournament, which will include invited players from around the world.

Tickets will be issued on-site at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles each day of the event. Additional details about how fans can attend in-person will be shared in the future.
