'Onward' Voice Cast: Who Voices the Characters in the New Disney Pixar Movie?

Disney and Pixar are back with their latest animated movie Onward, a road trip flick centered on two elves (voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) on a magical journey to resurrect their father. Joining the two Marvel stars in the voice cast of Onward are a number of big names, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Octavia Spencer and Lena Waithe—playing a role billed as Disney's first out gay character.

Who voices the characters in Onward?

Tom Holland—Ian Lightfoot

Leading the cast of Onward is Spider-Man star Tom Holland as Ian, an awkward and shy elf trying to come to terms with his magic powers. Onward is the actor's third voice acting part in as many months, following roles in Spies in Disguise and Dolittle.

Per director Dan Scanlon's interview with Collider, the character of Ian changed a lot when Holland came on board. He said: "Our early versions of Ian, before Tom was involved, were a little bit more sarcastic and sly, with little one-off comments, here and there. Tom didn't do that, and he didn't want to do that. He played all of those lines so sincerely and sweetly, and we realized: 'Oh, my god, of course, Ian wouldn't be that kind of guy. He's a shy guy.'"

Chris Pratt—Barley Lightfoot

Ian's large, older and more confident older sibling is Barley, who joins him in his mission to bring back their father. Chris Pratt voices the character, his first voice role since The Lego Movie 2, after roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World and Parks and Recreation.

Speaking to Kidzworld, Pratt said of his character: "One thing I really liked in seeing the film was that Barley was never jealous of the fact that he didn't have the magic gift [that Ian does]. This was very similar to my own relationship with my brother."

Octavia Spencer—The Manticore

One of the characters the brother meet along their road trip is The Manticore, a creature with the body of a lion, the wings of a dragon and a scorpion's tail. Usually a fearsome creature, this Manticore is the feisty owner of a family restaurant, brought to life by Octavia Spencer, who voiced a character alongside Holland in Dolittle and also appeared in Disney's Zootopia.

Mel Rodriguez—Colt Bronco

With Ian and Barley's dad gone, Laurel has a new boyfriend in the form of Colt Bronco, a police officer who also happens to be a centaur. Mel Rodriguez, recently seen in series like The Last Man on Earth and On Becoming a God in Central Florida, has previously provided voices in We Bare Bears and the Captain Underpants movie.

Kyle Bornheimer—Wilden Lightfoot

Disney films wouldn't be Disney films without a dead father somewhere in the mix, and Onward's deceased dad is Wilden Lightfoot, who Ian and Barley will try to resurrect. The actor providing the character's voice is Kyle Bornheimer, best known for playing Teddy, the former boyfriend of Amy Santiago in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and who is currently starring in Avenue 5 on HBO. Per IMDB, Wilden is his first voice role.
