When a woman heard noises coming from her garage, the last thing she expected to see was an opossum putting on a show for her rescue cat, but that's exactly what unfolded before her eyes.

After walking into her home in Texas, Yvonne Trevino was immediately greeted by an unexpected racket coming from inside the garage. While she might have thought it was only her pets playing together, when she opened the garage door, she instead saw her rescue cat, Hampton, looking utterly perplexed by a new visitor—an opossum.

The wild animal was clinging onto the door rail, but couldn't stop itself from gradually sliding closer to the ground. Neither animal seemed to know how to treat the other, and Trevino told Newsweek that the opossum "was there for probably an hour," although she didn't know how long it had been clinging onto the rail prior to her arrival.

Trevino left the garage open, "so he could get out, but he stayed hanging for a while," she said. In the meantime, Hampton certainly seemed fascinated by his new friend.

Possum with cat

"He jumped off the rail and did a tuck and roll before walking back to the side of house. My cat is used to seeing them. I have four outdoor cats and they co-exist together, so they lay there while the opossum eats their food. There's never been a fight or growl before."

The opossum was undoubtedly an unexpected intruder, but thankfully not a dangerous one, as Wildlife Animal Control insists that they aren't aggressive creatures. Whenever they pay a visit, it's usually just for food that's within reach – such as dog or cat food, or to rummage through trash.

Whenever they find themselves in a potentially dangerous situation, it's thought that they go into a state of shock and will simply freeze on the spot. When Trevino caught sight of the opossum, it may have felt in danger and frozen on the rail, rather than making a run for it.

Not only was she slightly stunned by her discovery, but Trevino found the sight amusing as it looked almost as though the animal was pole dancing just for the feline. She posted the video on her TikTok account (@threevino) on December 4, and it left millions of social media users in hysterics. In just three days, the clip has been viewed more than 8.6 million times and received over 1.1 million likes.

As hilarious as she found the video, Trevino certainly wasn't expecting to generate such a strong reaction online, telling Newsweek that "social media has been crazy." Many people even asked her to repost the clip with different audio to make it even funnier.

With more than 11,400 comments on the first post already, many TikTokers were delighted by the opossum and the cat's interaction, and plenty of people even found the wild animal incredibly cute.

One person commented: "The [opossum] pretending to be invisible while slowly slipping!"

Another TikTok user responded: "That cat was really ready to risk it all just to have a close up."

While one comment reads: "This is a cinematic masterpiece."
