Owner's Reaction to Missing Cat After 390 Days Apart Goes Viral: 'So Fat'

The reunion of a cat and her owner after 390 days apart has provided two memeable reactions online.

A video shared on TikTok by the cat's owner, under the username mon_mon_00, shows the owner picking up her cat from a lady who's been taking care of her. The owner even provided a bottle of prosecco as thanks.

The owner was emotional throughout the entire video, but when she finally met the cat, outside in the garden, they both had an unexpected reaction.

The cat, who was missing for over a year, didn't recognize her at first and moved away, only to reconcile after smelling her owner's hands. When mon_mon_00 saw her cat she didn't expect what she found, and with a surprised face, she turned to the camera and said: "she's fat!"

According to data from Lost Pet Research and Recovery, about 15 percent of cats in America go missing at least once every five years. Most of them, 64 percent, are found alive.

Approximately 66 percent of all cats that go missing are adults, and about 64 percent of all missing cats are not found for at least 4 years. Only 10 percent of kittens are likely to go missing and about 24 percent of senior cats.

Research carried out by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) shows that approximately 3.2 million companion cats enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year, with about 100,000 of them are returned to their owners.

Of those remaining, about 2.1 million of them are adopted each year, and approximately 530,000 are euthanized.

The 2021-2022 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, shows that 70 percent of American households own a pet, which equates to 90.5 million homes, and 45,3 million of them own at least one cat.

On average cat owners spend about $902 dollars a year on their feline, and these expenses include veterinary visits, food and treats, and toys among other things.

The video which was first posted on the platform earlier in June has been viewed over 295,400 times and liked about 21,900 times, and it comes with a caption that says: "My lovely cat was missing for 390 days and a few days ago she finally gets back home."

One user, Joanna Piechaczyk commented on the video: "the best day ever."

Newsweek reached out to mon_mon_00 for comment. We could not verify the details of the case.
