[AWAITING CLIP]

A Pennsylvania mom’s attempt at a heartwarming gender reveal for her older kids didn’t quite go as planned.

Mallorie McGrath-Moore (@mama..mal) and her partner Ian wanted to keep their newborn baby’s gender a surprise for their two older kids, Caiden, 13, and Scarlette, 9.

In a clip on TikTok, both Caiden and Scarlette are holding their newborn sibling with their eyes closed.

A 13-year-old boy and his 9-year-old sister with their eyes closed while they hold their newborn baby brother.

...

When they’re told to open them, Scarlette looks down to see her baby brother Bodhi’s blue hat, and she can’t hide her disappointment. It wasn’t the reaction Mallorie and Ian were expecting.

“We had a feeling Scarlette might be a little disappointed since she was hoping for a sister, but we thought meeting the baby would make her happy either way,” Mallorie told Newsweek. “Honestly, I think what really bothered her was that her big brother was right and she wasn’t. Her face when she saw the blue hat was priceless.”

For Mallorie, the decision to keep the baby’s gender a surprise until birth was inspired by family.

“My niece, Tyler, waited until birth to find out the sex of her fourth baby and told me there’s no better surprise,” she explained. “Since we already had both a boy and a girl, we decided to wait too—and I’m so glad we did.”

Mallorie’s clip has been viewed 1.5 million times and received hundreds of comments, many of whom had also experienced disappointed little ones.

“My niece cried so hard when she found out she was having a third brother. She wanted a sister so bad. But she loves her brothers more than anything now,” one user wrote.

“I feel her. We did a gender reveal cake for my little brother. I was very upset to see the blue (I was 13). Best part he’s a twin and we already knew the other was a girl,” another added.

A third commented, “The absolute daggers she was throwing you with that look! Baby bro will win her over in no time.”

“Even though she looked upset in that moment, she was so excited to meet Bodhi,” Mallorie said. “I love that she feels comfortable enough with us to always show exactly how she’s feeling. Now, she and Caiden adore their little brother. The very first thing they do when they get home from school is look for him.”
