Teen Selling PS5 Gunned Down by Armed Robber

A Texas teenager was shot by an armed robber as he was trying to sell his PlayStation 5, according to local police.

The 19-year-old, from northwest Harris County, was attempting to sell the Sony gaming console to an unidentified buyer in the 8300 block of Gros Ventre when he was shot, deputies with Harris County Sheriff's Office told FOX 11 Los Angeles.

According to police, the buyer shot the teenager because he wanted to steal the PlayStation 5, but, according to the news outlet, the console still remains on the teenager's property.

Images obtained by local media outlets appear to show a white video game console covered in mud in a grassy area on the ground.

The boy was taken to a local hospital in stable condition and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to his left side, ABC 13 reported.

It isn't yet clear if the gunman has been arrested, however, as KHOU 11 has reported that the suspect fled in a gray Mercedes and that investigators have details of the shooter's social media account.

The shooter had allegedly entered the teenager's home to make sure it was working, before the pair went back outside to finish the transaction, KHOU 11 reported, citing local authorities.

Newsweek has contacted Harris County Sheriff's Office for additional comment.

ABC 13 reported that the pair had agreed to meet up for the transaction after the teenager had listed his gaming console for sale online.

The incident is being investigated by the office's Violent Crimes Unit, according to Click 2 Houston.

Anyone with information about the shooting has been asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

In a similar incident earlier this year in the state of Georgia, police arrested a 19-year-old man wanted in the armed robbery of a PlayStation 5 in Athens-Clarke County in February.

Two individuals had listed the Sony device online, and were robbed at gunpoint after driving to a location to finalize the transaction, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

Myron Franklin, 19, was arrested in March for his alleged involvement in the incident and was charged with armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault.

A few months earlier, a teenage boy was similarly robbed by an armed gunman while he and his father were trying to sell a Sony PlayStation 5 in Lincoln, Nebraska, according to the Lincoln Journal Star.
