'Pokémon Go' Armored Mewtwo Raid: Start Time and Counters

Pokémon Go players are getting a unique new Raid Boss this month when Mewtwo returns in a brand new form.

The powerful Psychic-type Legendary arrives in the popular mobile game wearing the armor seen in the upcoming Pokémon movie. Armored Mewtwo has been a part of the Pokémon franchise for more than 20 years when it appeared in the armor given to him by Team Rocket leader, Giovanni to help the Pokémon harness its power.

It was an integral part of Pokémon The First Movie and will pop up again in this year's Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution.

Fans of Pokémon Go will want to get to the closest Level 5 Raid this month to try and take down Armored Mewtwo and add it to their collection.

Here's all the information you'll need to take Mewtwo down, including when the Raids begin and end and which Pokémon you should take into battle to counter Armored Mewtwo.

Armored Mewtwo will begin appearing in Pokémon Go Raids starting Wednesday, July 10 at 4 p.m. EDT.

Players will have until Wednesday, July 31 at 4 p.m. EDT to catch Armored Mewtwo before it goes away.

Mewtwo is a pure Psychic-type Pokémon and that doesn't change with the armor. It's only weak to Bug, Dark and Ghost-type attacks and resists Fighting and other Psychic-type attacks.

It's difficult to predict the differences between Armored Mewtwo and its normal form, but if we assume nothing changes your best bet is to take as many Ghost and Dark-type Pokémon as you can. These are some of the best Pokémon to take into battle.

  • Giratina (Origin Form) with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
  • Gengar with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
  • Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball
  • Tyranitar with Bite and Crunch
  • Weavile with Feint Attack and Foul Play
  • Pinsir with Fury Cutter and X-Scissor

When Armored Mewtwo arrives in Pokémon Go, trainers will be able to pick up new avatar items. Check out renowned Pokémon Go dataminer Chrales' tweet showing off the avatar items as well as how Armored Mewtwo will look in its normal and Shiny form.
