'Pokémon Go' Community Day Vote: When and How to Choose (Porygon)

Last week, Niantic confirmed that the next two Pokémon Go Community Day events will be voted on by the players and the time to vote is upon us.

From August 22 to August 23, Pokémon Go players will be able to have their votes counted as they determine what the next two big events will be for the popular mobile game.

Community Days are one of the first events in Pokémon Go's history and gives players of all skill levels something to do. It was first a great way to introduce a Shiny form that wasn't in the game before, and now it's become a must for players who want to compete in player-vs-player battles, as it gives certain Pokémon an exclusive move that is both powerful and practical.

There are four choices to choose from with the top vote becoming the spotlight Pokémon for September's Community Day and the second-place Pokémon being October's.

Players can vote Porygon to be the next 'Pokemon Go' Community Day spotlight Pokemon Niantic

Voting for the next two Pokémon Go Community Day events will begin Saturday, August 22, at 9 p.m. EDT, with the poll closing on Sunday, August 23, at 9 p.m. EDT.

For 24 hours, Pokémon Go players can cast their one vote with the official Pokémon Go Twitter account.

We'll update this section with the poll once it's live.

Now, onto the choices.

As mentioned above, there are four Pokémon to choose from during this 24-hour voting period. We made a rather compelling argument for Porygon when the voting was announced a week ago, but at the time we didn't know what the exclusive moves for each Pokémon would be.

Niantic has confirmed what each option would receive if they become the September or October Pokémon Go Community Day spotlight Pokémon. And after looking them over... you should still pick Porygon. However, if you don't believe us, you can read the official summaries of what each Pokémon would receive as an exclusive attack if they win.

  • Charmander: Evolve Charmeleon (the evolved form of Charmander) to get Charizard that knows the Dragon-type attack Dragon Breath. Dragon Breath gives Charizard a Fast Attack that dishes out damage quickly, and the attack is super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon.
  • Caterpie: Evolve Metapod (the evolved form of Caterpie) to get Butterfree that knows the Flying-type attack Hurricane. Hurricane offers Butterfree a powerful Flying-type Charged Attack to further strengthen its matchups against Fighting-, Grass-, and Bug-type Pokémon.
  • Grimer: Grimer, originally discovered in the Kanto region, will appear in the wild and hatch from Eggs. Alolan Grimer will appear in Raid Battles. Evolve Grimer or Alolan Grimer to get Muk or Alolan Muk that know the Fire-type attack Fire Punch. Fire Punch would be the first Fire-type attack available for Muk and Alolan Muk, giving them a Charged Attack option that not only charges quickly but also hits Steel-type Pokémon for super effective damage.
  • Porygon: Evolve Porygon2 (the evolved form of Porygon) to get Porygon-Z that knows the Normal-type attack Tri Attack. This attack will be new to Pokémon GO and, when used, will have a chance of decreasing the opposing Pokémon's Attack and Defense.

Again, Porygon is the only one of these Pokémon that has yet to have its Shiny form in Pokémon Go, which, for us, tips the scale in its favor.

But which Pokémon are you going to choose? Let us know in the comments section.
