'Pokémon Go' Genesect Raid: Counters and Everything You Need to Know

As trainers enjoy the Unova Celebration event in Pokémon Go, one Legendary Pokémon from the Unova region has returned in Raids.

Genesect, the Bug and Steel-type Pokémon, will appear in Legendary Raids from January 5 to January 10, and trainers will be able to catch it again. However, this Genesect is different from others that appeared in Pokémon Go before.

This Genesect comes with the Burn Drive, which makes its Techno Blast attack a Fire-type move. If you want this version of Genesect, you'll have to go into battle with some powerful 'Mon during this event.

Genesect's typing makes it resistant to Poison, Ice, Normal, Bug, Psychic, Steel, Fairy, Grass and Dragon-type attacks. Trainers should steer clear of using Pokémon with those moves.

This Legendary's typing makes it weak to just Fire-type attacks. However, Fire-type moves will deal four times the damage, so Pokémon Go trainers will want to go into battle with as many Fire types as they can.

If you're looking to bring a Mega Pokémon into battle, there are two great choices: Mega Charizard Y and X will both be strong against Genesect.

For this event, trainers will want to bring Mega Charizard Y into battle because the Fire and Flying-type Pokémon will be more powerful from January 5 to January 12, so try and get your Mega to go up against Genesect for this event.

Here are the best options of Mega Pokémon to bring into battle:

  • Mega Charizard Y with Fire Spin and Blast Burn
  • Mega Charizard X with Fire Spin and Blast Burn

If you don't have either Mega Pokémon there are still viable options to take on Genesect—especially Fire types. Take these options into consideration before going into battle:

  • Reshiram with Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Heatran with Fire Spin and Flamethrower
  • Chandelure with Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Moltres with Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Entei with Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Blaziken with Fire Spin and Blast Burn
  • Flareon with Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Typhlosion with Ember and Blast Burn
  • Arcanine with Fire Fang and Flamethrower
  • Charizard with Fire Spin and Blast Burn
  • Magmortar with Fire Spin and Fire Punch

The latest Raid update in Pokémon Go will fill every level of Raid with Pokémon from the Unova region. Aside from Genesect, there are other Pokémon that trainers should consider catching.
