'Pokémon Go' Halloween 2020 Event: Start Time, Research Tasks, Shiny Spiritomb and More

The annual Halloween event in Pokémon Go is about to begin, giving trainers the best chance to catch some of the game's spookiest Pokémon, including a new Galarian form and Shiny.

Pokémon Go's Halloween 2020 event will be a little different than years past. With the debut of the Mega Evolution mechanic, trainers will be able to Mega-Evolve their Gengar into its most powerful form during this event.

There will also be a new regional variant, Galarian Yamask, debuting in Pokémon Go. Spiritomb, the Ghost and Dark-type Pokémon that is only caught during Halloween, will also be found in its Shiny form for the first time.

Spiritomb is a rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go, and the only way to obtain it is by completing the Field Research tasks during the Halloween 2020 event. While you'll mostly find regular Spiritomb, lucky trainers can stumble upon its Shiny form.

Shiny Spiritomb is noticeably different from its regular variant, going from purple and green dots to a neon blue with light purple dots.

Trainers will notice Ghost-type Pokémon appearing more frequently in the wild and hatching from Eggs during the event. There will also be Halloween-themed Pokémon appearing in Raids, including Sableye wearing a Litwick costume and Gengar wearing a Banette costume.

New avatar items will be available in the Style Shop, including a Pikachu Mask, Gengar Onesie, Sableye Goggles, Sableye Mask or a Banette mask. There's a new pose to purchase, as well.

Also, in the in-game shop, there will be special bundles for trainers to purchase that will contain items to help you on your Halloween adventure.

Double the candy will be rewarded to trainers after transferring and catching Pokémon during the event.
