'Pokémon Go' Halloween Cup: Best Options for New Battle Format

As Pokémon Go trainers continue to duke it out in Season 4 of the Go Battle League, a new cup is ready for players to compete in.

The Halloween Cup, similar to the postponed Flying Cup, will pit trainers against each other with restrictions that will allow some Pokémon that don't get a lot of love to enjoy some shine.

Pokémon Go's Halloween Cup is restricting teams to having no more than 1,500CP, which is the ceiling for the Great League during each season of the Battle League, and to only use the following types: Poison, Bug, Ghost, Dark and Fairy.

The Pokémon Go Halloween Cup runs from October 26 to Tuesday, November 3, and trainers can earn encounters with Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander wearing costumes.

If you're looking to compose your own team to take on the Halloween Cup, we have some suggestions for the best Pokémon to use.

The Bug and Poison-type Pokémon may not seem like a viable option in the Halloween Cup, but its variety of moves make it a powerful lead in battles.

Fairy-type Pokémon are only weak to Steel and Poison-type attacks, and trainers will face off against plenty of them, so Beedrill is a great option that also resists Fairy-type attacks.

Use Poison Jab as a fast attack to take down Fairy-type Pokémon faster. As for the charged attack, Drill Run—the Community Day-exclusive move—is a must for trainers. The Ground-type attack can help take out Fire-type Pokémon like Alolan Marowak, Houndoom and Chandelure. It's also great against other Poison-type Pokémon.

Trainers can have the second charged attack be Sludge Bomb to deal even more damage against Fairy-type Pokémon, or a Bug-type attack to take down Dark-type Pokémon. Either way will help get the most out of your Beedrill.

A staple of the Great League, Azumarill's typing makes it a great Pokémon to use in the Halloween Cup. It's only weak to Electric, Grass and Poison-type attacks, and in this format trainers will, more often than not, only have to be concerned about Poison-type Pokémon.

Bubble is the best fast attack for Azumarill to charge up its attacks fastest, and trainers should have Play Rough to take out Dark-type Pokémon and either Hydro Pump or Ice Beam. Ice Beam will be great for going up against that rare Grass-type Pokémon, while Hydro Pump deals maximum damage to anyone aside from Grass and Water-type Pokémon.

Alolan Marowak

The Ghost and Fire-type Pokémon Alolan Marowak may be the most versatile option in this format.

Fire Spin is the best option for its fast attack because of its speed and being effective against Bug-type Pokémon. As for its charged attack, Shadow Ball is great for taking out other Ghost-type Pokémon and hitting neutral to every type except for Dark types.

Bone Club is a Ground-type attack that is super effective against other Alolan Marowak and Poison-type Pokémon. It's also neutral against every type of Pokémon, aside from Flying, Bug and Grass.

One the newest additions to Pokémon Go, Mandibuzz's Dark and Flying typing makes it a great option to use in the Halloween Cup.

Its fast attack Air Slash is a great option to take out Bug types and is neutral against the other types of Pokémon in the format. As for its charged attacks, trainers can use Aerial Ace as another Flying-type option that charges very quickly. As for the second, use Foul Play to take out Ghost-type Pokémon.

Another Great League staple, Umbreon may be the best wall in the format. Although its weak to Bug and Fairy-type attacks, it can take a lot of hits, especially from those that are neutral.

Use Feint Attack as its fast attack, however its charged attacks leave much to be desired. The Community Day-exclusive move Last Resort is a must, as it's neutral to every Pokémon except for Ghost types. The second charged attack should be Foul Play.
