'Pokémon Go' Hoenn Celebration Event: Start Time, Research Tasks and More

The third weekly celebration event in Pokémon Go is about to begin, which means that trainers will travel to the Hoenn region for increased spawns of Gen 3 Pokémon, and a bunch of other in-game goodies.

The Hoenn Celebration event is the next stop on the way to the Kanto Tour event in February and there will be plenty to do, including catch Shiny Pokémon, battle more than one Legendary Pokémon in Raids and much more.

POKEMON GO HOENN CELEBRATION START TIME

The Pokémon Go Hoenn Celebration event begins Tuesday, January 19, at 10 a.m. and ends Sunday, January 24, at 8 p.m. local time.

POKEMON GO HOENN CELEBRATION RESEARCH TASKS

Like the past two Celebration events, there will be Field Research that trainers can obtain by spinning PokéStops in their area.

The Pokémon Go blog did confirm that trainers will be rewarded with Stardust, and encounters with the following Pokémon by completing these tasks: Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Aron, Plusle, Minun and Wailmer.

Here's the exclusive field research for the Hoenn event:

  • Catch 3 Pokémon with Weather Boost - Treecko/Torchic/Mudkip
  • Catch 11 Pokémon - Plusle/Minun
  • Power up Pokémon 5 times - Aron
  • Power up Pokémon 9 times - Wailmer

For the Hoenn Celebration event, there will also be a Timed Research that will reward trainers with a special Legendary Pokémon upon completion. The entire list of tasks is not known, but the blog confirms that the following tasks and rewards will be given to trainers:

  • Catch two Kyogre to earn 10 Kyogre Candies.
  • Catch two Groudon to earn 10 Groudon Candies.
  • Catch 30 Pokémon to earn 30 Poké Balls.

Completing all the Timed Research tasks will reward trainers with an encounter with Rayquaza that knows the exclusive Charged Attack Hurricane, as well as earn 3,000 XP and a Silver Pinap Berry. This Rayquaza has a chance to be Shiny.

METEOR MASH

Beldum and its evolution Metagross is a popular and powerful Pokémon from the Hoenn region. During the event, trainers that evolve Metang—the evolved form of Beldum—will receive a Metagross that knows Meteor Mash.

Meteor Mash was an exclusive Community Day attack and trainers can now add this powerful Pokémon and attack to their teams.

POKEMON GO HOENN CELEBRATION RAID UPDATE

When the Hoenn Celebration event goes live, Raids will be updated to include Pokémon from Gen 3. The official blog confirms that Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Ralts, Aron and Bagon will be appearing in one-star Raids.

Breloom, Mawile, Grumpig, Spinda and Absol will appear in three-star Raids, and Kyogre and Groudon will appear in five-star Raids.

IN-GAME BONUSES

For trainers looking for Remote Raid Passes, a free bundle of three will be available in the in-game shop starting Tuesday, January 19, at 4 p.m. EST, and up until Monday, January 25, at 4 p.m. EST.

Aron, the Steel and Rock-type Pokémon, will have its Shiny form appear more frequently in the wild, in Raids and hatching from 5km Eggs.

Finally, the Hoenn-themed Collection Challenge will task trainers with catching Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Nincada, Nosepass, Aron, Plusle, Minun and Bagon, to receive three Silver Pinap Berries, XP and an Incense.
