'Pokémon Go' Sinnoh Celebration Event: Start Time, Shiny Buizel, Research Tasks and More

With the Unova Celebration in Pokémon Go behind us, trainers can now get ready for the next event, which focuses on the Sinnoh region.

The Sinnoh Celebration event will bring Pokémon from Gen 4 to trainers everywhere in Pokémon Go. Whether it's in the wild, in Eggs or Raids, the world of Pokémon Go will reflect the Sinnoh region.

Lucky trainers can also find a debuting Shiny Pokémon to add to their collection as well.

The Pokémon Go Sinnoh Celebration begins Tuesday, January 12, at 10 a.m. and it ends Sunday, January 17, at 8 p.m. local time.

Trainers will be able to obtain special event-exclusive research tasks during the Sinnoh celebration. While we won't know what the contents of the research tasks are until the event is live, the official Pokémon Go blog has confirmed that players will receive encounters with Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Cranidos, Shieldon and Buizel for completing certain missions.

The Sinnoh event has begun in many areas. Here are the tasks and rewards:

  • Power up Pokémon 4 Times - Chimchar, Turtwig, Piplup
  • Win 2 Raids - Cranidos, Shieldon
  • Defeat 2 Team Go Rocket Grunts - Buizel
  • Defeat 1 Team Go Rocket Grunt - Stardust (x500)

The Water-type Pokémon Buizel will have its Shiny form debut in Pokémon Go during the Sinnoh Celebration event.

Buizel can be found in the wild more frequently, in one-star Raids and as a reward for completing certain Research tasks. Trainers will recognize a Shiny Buizel, as its coloring changes from orange to a bright yellow.

Sinnoh Pokémon will appear in all Raids during the celebration event, and that includes the return of a Legendary.

Heatran, the Fire and Steel-type Pokémon, will return for a limited time in five-star Raids. Trainers can also find Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Shinx, Buizel and Gible in one-star Raids, while Lopunny, Hippowdon, Toxicroak and Lumineon will appear in three-star Raids.

Mega Charizard Y, Mega Blastoise and Mega Abomasnow will continue to appear in Mega Raids during the event.

First and foremost, Pokémon like Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Bidoof, Cranidos, Shieldon, Combee, Buizel, Drifloon, Glameow, Purugly, Hippopotas, Skorupi and Snover will appear more frequently in the wild during the Sinnoh Celebration event.

Trainers can also hatch the following Pokémon from 5km Eggs during this time: Kricketot, Budew, Cranidos, Shieldon, Bronzor, Bonsly, Hippopotas and Croagunk.

And just like the Unova event, a special Collection Challenge will begin rewarding trainers with special items for catching certain Pokémon.

Catch a Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Cranidos, Shieldon, Combee, Buizel, Shadow Stunky and Shadow Snover to receive the following items: Stardust, Magnetic Lure, and Ultra Balls (x15).
