The latest update for Pokémon Go celebrates the 2019 Lunar New Year and the Year of the Pig by increasing the spawns of Spoink and other Pokémon in the overworld.

Starting February 4-13, Pokémon Go players will enjoy a chance to catch Pokémon they may not see often, and even have a chance at a Shiny Pokémon making its debut in the popular mobile game.

Here's all the information you'll need to make the most out of the latest Pokémon Go event.

Like past Pokémon Go updates, certain Pokémon will have increased spawns during the timed event.

During the Year of the Pig event, these Pokémon will appear more often in the mobile game's overworld. Each represents one of the animals of the zodiac:

  • Spoink
  • Miltank
  • Buneary
  • Torchic
  • Poochyena
  • Mareep
  • Ekans
  • Mankey
  • Electabuzz
  • Ponyta
  • Dratini
  • Rattata

In addition, trainers can enjoy double experience for catching Pokémon during the nine-day event. Evolving Pokémon will also yield double experience.

Obtaining Lucky Pokémon is more likely when trading with friends during this event so get out there and trade away.

Since its the Year of the Pig, trainers will see more of Pokémon's Psychic pig, Spoink in the overworld.

In addition, Shiny Spoink is finally being added to Pokémon Go with this new event. Trainers can distinguish a Shiny Spoink from a normal one by its color. While regular Spoink is purple in color, Shiny Spoink turns it gold.
