The scans also show Vermillion City Gym Leader Lt. Surge with his Raichu for the first time in Pokémon Let's Go. The Nintendo Switch games are modeled after Pokémon Yellow Version and will only encompass the original 151 Pokémon of the Kanto Region.

Confirmation of Mega Evolution in Pokémon Let's Go adds a new layer of complexity to the game's battles. Although it's unclear whether Mega Evolution will be accessed in the game's story or in online battles only, the scans do confirm that trainers will need the Key Stone and corresponding Mega Stone to activate Mega Evolution.

There are 13 Kanto Pokémon that have access to Mega Evolution, and they are:

  • Venusaur
  • Blastoise
  • Charizard (X and Y)
  • Mewtwo (X and Y)
  • Beedrill
  • Pidgeot
  • Pinsir
  • Slowbro
  • Alakazam
  • Gengar
  • Kangaskhan
  • Aerodactyl
  • Gyarados

Scyther and Onix have access to Mega Evolution upon evolving into Scizor and Steelix, but Pokémon Let's Go will likely not have those evolved Pokémon.

Pokémon Let's Go implements elements from Pokémon Go, like the catching mechanic, to bridge the gap between the core Pokémon audience and those who were introduced to the franchise through the popular mobile game. Similarly, adding Mega Evolution to Let's Go introduces the mechanic to Pokémon Go players before it's eventually added to it.

Mega Evolution was introduced in 2013 with the Gen 6 games, Pokémon X and Y, and temporarily transformed Pokémon into more powerful versions of themselves. New Mega Evolutions were added with Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Mega Evolutions were also present in the Gen 7 titles, but no new ones were added.

Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee will release for Nintendo Switch on Nov. 16.
