How to Catch Galarian Legendary Birds in 'Pokémon Sword and Shield' Crown Tundra

Along with Calyrex, the biggest surprise in The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield was the reveal that the Legendary Bird Trio from the Kanto region—Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres—will get Galarian Forms.

Now that The Crown Tundra is available, so are these three special Legendary Pokémon.

Unlike catching Calyrex or some of the other Legendary Pokémon you'll find in the DLC, the three Legendary Birds will take some patience and a lot of exploring on the part of the trainer.

How to Catch Galarian Legendary Bird Trio

The Galarian Legendary Bird Trio are part of their own mission in The Crown Tundra DLC.

Trainers will need to visit the Dyna Tree in the southern-most region of The Crown Tundra to find the Galarian Legendary Birds. Once you arrive, a cutscene of the trio fighting among themselves happens before they realize your presence and leave.

Similar to the Legendary Beasts of the Johto region (Suicune, Entei, and Raikou), the Legendary Birds will be roaming in different areas of the Galar region. They will appear in the overworld, so it won't force trainers to look in the grass for a random encounter.

Where to find Galarian Zapdos

Galarian Zapdos is found in the Wild Area of the main Galar region. This Flying and Fighting-type Pokémon will appear in the overworld and run away from you once you get close enough.

Trainers will have to track down the Pokémon to have a chance to catch it. It'll be difficult to chase it down, but we found success getting parallel with the Legendary Pokémon and rushing it with your bike before it gets to top speed.

You can also continue to chase it down, without letting it rest, and it will eventually slow down enough for you to catch up.

Galarian Zapdos has the attacks Drill Peck, Reversal, Focus Energy and the signature move Thunderous Kick.

Where to find Galarian Articuno

Galarian Articuno stays in The Crown Tundra. Trainers will see it flying overhead, and when you get close enough it will acknowledge your presence by creating copies of itself.

Trainers will have to find the real Articuno to initiate a battle with the Flying and Psychic-type Pokémon.

Galarian Articuno comes with the attacks Hurricane, Psycho Cut, Psycho Shift and the signature move Freezing Glare.

Where to find Galarian Moltres

Galarian Moltres flies over to The Isle of Armor. Trainers will notice the Flying and Dark-type Pokémon flying around the island, but to battle it, you'll need to get in front of it so it can see you.

The Legendary Pokémon will acknowledge you and attack, initiating the battle.

Galarian Moltres comes with the attacks Nasty Plot, Sucker Punch, Hurricane and the signature attack Fiery Wrath.

The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
