'Pokémon Sword and Shield' Leak Confirms More Evolutions & Galarian Forms

Whenever new information on Pokémon Sword and Shield is released, fans recall a leak that was seemingly confirmed back in June.

The fresh August 7 trailer introduced new trainers, the evil team and new Pokémon, all of which were documented that leak. Of course, the leak we're talking about is the May 23 4chan post that correctly predicted Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing, as well as the name of rivals and other characters in Sword and Shield.

Here are parts of the leak that were proven correct in this latest trailer:

  • Bede and Marnie were specifically named and were confirmed in this trailer.
  • Team Yell is also correctly named, as well as how they are big fans of Marnie.
  • Bede getting an endorsement from Chairman Rose is mentioned in the press material for the new Sword and Shield trailer.

However, the biggest part of the leak that was confirmed is the existence of regional evolutions. This one line in the leak was interesting; as it could have meant either Pokémon would get evolutions like how Gen 4 gave Magmar, Electabuzz and others one or maybe we would see regional forms similar to Alola Forms in Gen 7. If the trailer is any indication, it seems like we're getting both.

Spoiler Alert: If you don't want information on Sword and Shield being spoiled, turn back now.

The leak states "some Pokémon, like Farfetch'd, will get a regional evolution called Sirfetch'd. Meowth looks like a ball of spiky grey fur."

The August 7 trailer confirmed that there will be Galarian forms in Sword and Shield, with the Zigzagoon line and Weezing being the first. It was also revealed that Galarian Linoone evolves into Obstagoon.

With this information and knowledge from the leak, Sword and Shield fans are likely to get confirmation that the Meowth line will receive a new Galarian form. Meowth and Persian already received Alolan forms in Sun and Moon - making them pure Dark types - but it seems another breed will be in Sword and Shield. What type differences Galarian Meowth and Persian will have remain unknown, but that won't curb fan speculation.

As for Farfetch'd, it seems any regional evolutions will come from these new Galarian forms like Obstagoon. The official Sword and Shield site makes note that Obstagoon is just "one example" of this unique evolution. That would suggest that Farfetch'd might receive a Galarian form and then a regional evolution into Sirfetch'd.

Pokémon Sword and Shield release November 15 for Nintendo Switch.
