'PR Stunt': Meghan Markle's Uvalde Trip To Donate Blood Sparks Controversy

Meghan Markle's recent trip to Uvalde, Texas has sparked controversy on social media.

On May 24, Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old, shot and killed 19 children and two educators inside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde before he was killed himself.

Markle went to the town in Texas to donate blood and food along with visiting the memorials of the 21 people who passed away in the shooting. Many praised her, but others condemned it as a PR stunt.

"I never paid much attention to Meghan Markle till today. She had the audacity to show up in Ulvade, TX to pay her respects. Along with her bodyguards and a horde of photographers. No class at all. It's all about her," a user ranted.

"Sorry, this was a tragic event & she has used it as a photo opportunity. #MeganMarkle she be visiting her seriously incapacitated father instead. Always seeking self-publicity," wrote an angry Twitter user.

"Meghan Markle made such an 'unannounced visit' to Uvalde that every major media organization was conveniently there to recognize and photograph her laying flowers," wrote another.

"I find her posing like this with no doubt her own photographer utterly disgusting. I'm used to her PR stunts but this actually makes me angry. By all means, pay your respects but posing 4 photographs & releasing to the media is SICK," exclaimed a user.

Many also came to defend Markle.

A user exclaimed, "There's nothing wrong with caring about people & showing up to support a hurting community. Uvalde community volunteers didn't even realize it was Meghan Markle until AFTER she had already left. Anyone criticizing kindness, clearly has none in their heart."

One Twitter user said, "I'm so disgusted at the fact that people are so comfortable bullying Meghan Markle for simply donating to survivors of the school shooting and families of the victims. How is giving back to the community an offense to you? Why do people insist on being so evil?"

People are more mad that Meghan Markle donated blood than they are that cops stood outside doing nothing while children were being slaughtered in their classroom. What the f**k, America, straighten out your priorities," another wrote.

"Megan Markle literally went to Texas unannounced, wearing regular clothes, and didn't tell anybody who she was. The volunteers didn't know who she was until she left. She was photographed by photographers who were already in Texas. Explain how this was a PR stunt. I'll wait," explained another.

A volunteer named Gloria Contreras spoke to Buzzfeed News about meeting Markle, "I had no idea who she was. She just was carrying on a conversation like her and I knew each other for years.

"We were just talking about, you know, the situation and what happened what we were doing here. I told her about us giving out water to the people and feeding them," she continued.

Another volunteer at the blood drive said, "It's funny, we didn't even know it was her until after she left and now we're so sad. I mean, to be honest, we thought she was our neighbor."
