‘Red Dead 2’ Camp Glitch Guide: How to Avoid Chapter 2 Mission, Character Bug

There’s a glitch in Red Dead Redemption 2 that can erase a lot of story content from the middle of the game, but it’s easy to avoid.

In Chapter 2 of Red Dead Redemption 2 there’s a mission called “Polite Society, Valentine Style.” You’ll get it by speaking to Uncle in camp. The mission tours you around the town of Valentine for a while, but things soon turn violent when a stranger assaults Tilly. But trouble really heats up when someone recognizes you from the heist in Blackwater. You’ll have a choice after chasing him down: kill him or set him free and hope that you’re threat is enough to keep his mouth shut.

But there’s one thing you must never do while playing “Polite Society, Valentine Style”: retry.

Failing the mission at any point and using “Retry Checkpoint” will activate the glitch. And it’s a bad one. From Chapter 2 to Chapter 4, several characters will go missing from camp: Sadie, Jack, John and Abigail.

They’ll still show up in camp when they have missions to offer, so it’s possible to trigger the glitch without realizing anything has gone wrong.

Rockstar Support has a simple fix: “abandon and restart mission, or load a save before the mission failed.” Just so long as you don’t use the “Retry Checkpoint” feature, the glitch shouldn’t be a problem.

Other than missing out on all conversations and “in-game vignettes” with Sadie, Jack, John and Abigail, the game glitch won’t affect your mission progression. The missing characters will reappear in camp at the beginning of Chapter 4, making it an easy glitch to miss.

Rockstar Games is “aware of the issue” and plan a fix in an upcoming Title Update. Maybe they’ll fix the gold glitch too.
