Rideshare Driver Stunned After Door Ripped Off by Passing Car in Viral Clip

A viral video shared on YouTube in January showing a startling accident in what appears to be a rideshare has resonated with viewers.

"Uber Passenger Opens Door Without Looking TOOK DOOR RIGHT OFF," read the title of the video, which was viewed more than 600,000 times. Newsweek was unable to independently verify whether the driver works with Uber.

The passenger, sitting in the back seat, opened the door on the driver's side of the vehicle just as a passing car drove by. A loud crash is heard as the passing car appeared to have plowed into the open door.

According to Uber, if a rider damages property, they are responsible for cleaning and repair fees, outside of wear and tear.

"In some cases, you may be eligible for an inconvenience fee of up to $250 based on the extent and nature of the damage," the rideshare company's website stated. "We may also be able to assist you with an insurance claim."

Drivers involved in a crash are encouraged to report it to Uber.

"All rides on Uber are insured," another webpage stated. "Our claims support team will guide you through the claims process and crash reporting to the insurance carrier providing coverage in your state."

Uber also noted that when drivers are online, the company maintains auto insurance on the driver's behalf.

After the crash, the driver and passenger sat together in stunned silence.

"Whoa, what the f**k," the passenger said, repeating the phrase several times.

The driver asked the passenger if he was OK and if he needed medical attention.

At one point in the five-minute clip, the passenger asked the driver if he should leave because he was "sitting on glass," to which the driver told him that he could sit on the other side of the passenger bench.

The driver climbed over to the passenger side of the car and got out just before the clip ended.

Although the clip was shared in January, viewers continued to comment on the video and some criticized the passenger.

"HOLY HECK there are CARS out there," one viewer wrote sarcastically. "Can you BELIEVE that?"

Another suggested that the passenger had "no shame," after he asked he was able to leave.

"Dude caused the accident but he wants to bail out like it's got nothing to do with him," the comment read.

"The fact that the passenger doesn't even apologize just boils my blood," a viewer commented.

While many were critical of the passenger, others commended the driver for his reaction.

"You did very good keeping everything in check," a commenter wrote. "Not your fault here at all."

"You have the patience of a saint," another commented. " I would have been screaming OMG! OMG! OMG!"

Another shocking car accident took place in March, in which a man crashed a car into a tree after he was accidentally tased by his girlfriend. A viral video showed a driver slam into the side of a parked car as the car was put in reverse.

Newsweek previously reported that a Florida trooper was able to stop a woman who was allegedly driving under the influence and evading police by colliding into the car with her own police car.
