Seth Rogen Tells Jewish People 'White Supremacists Hate You, Too'

Seemingly in response to controversy surrounding President Donald Trump's response when asked to denounce white supremacist groups during Tuesday night's presidential debates, actor and writer Seth Rogen tweeted a warning to Jewish people that white supremacists discriminate against them also.

"Just remember: if you're Jewish, white supremacists hate you too," the Pineapple Express actor tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.

The Anti-Defamation League also indicates that white supremacist groups also are prejudiced against Jewish people. "As a full-fledged ideology, white supremacy is far more encompassing than simple racism or bigotry," the organization wrote in the glossary entry for white supremacy. "Most white supremacists today further believe that the white race is in danger of extinction due to a rising 'flood' of non-whites, who are controlled and manipulated by Jews, and that imminent action is need to 'save' the white race."

Rogen also responded to a tweet that made suggestive remarks about conservative commentator Ben Shapiro by author and podcaster Ali A. Rizvi. "Some people are so desperate for adulation, they'll serve those who hate them to feel a false version of love," Rogen suggested.

On Twitter, Shapiro defended Trump's response to both Chris Wallace and former Vice President Joe Biden's requests that he condemn white supremacist groups, although agreed with someone who said the president shouldn't have added "stand by," when addressing the Proud Boys.

The Superbad writer and actor has long spoken out against white supremacists. In 2018, he tweeted that he'd communicated with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey about verifying white supremacists on the platform. "I've been DMing with @jack about his bizarre need to verify white supremacists on his platform for the last 8 months or so, and after all the exchanges, I've reached a conclusion: the dude simply does not seem to give a f**k," he wrote.

Rogen has been outspoken about being Jewish in interviews and his movies. His latest movie An American Pickle features him playing a Jewish immigrant.

In a July interview with Marc Maron on his WTF podcast, Rogen spoke extensively about his Jewish upbringing. "A lot of people-I think-don't just conversationally understand that if you meet a Jewish person in America, they're probably here, because someone tried to kill their grandparents not that long ago," he said at one point in the interview.

As previously reported, the actor also spoke about anti-semitism in that interview. "I remember my dad frankly telling me, 'people hate Jews. Just be aware of that. They just do.' And it's honestly something that I am so glad was instilled in me from a young age, because if it wasn't, I would constantly be shocked at how much motherf***ers hate Jews, because they do," he said.

Rogen's publicist did not respond to Newsweek's emailed request for comment in time for publication.
