Filters have the ability to transform users into seemingly whatever they like, whether that be plastic surgery obsessives, running through Versailles, or now, realistic Disney Pixar characters.
Snapchat released its latest cartoon character filter Thursday, June 10, which uses AR to transform users into a character straight out of a Disney movie. According to Tech Crunch, over 215 million users have tried out the lens, and it's been viewed over 1.7 billion times.
The filter, named Cartoon 3D Style Lens, is only available on Snapchat, but the online trend sees users share their videos to TikTok after. This isn't the first time a Disney filter has taken the internet by storm either, as it's actually Snapchat's third cartoon-style lens.
In August 2020, Snapchat had its biggest month in over a year, with 28.5 million new installs. Coincidentally, or not-so-coincidentally, Snapchat also released its first cartoon filter that month, called the Cartoon Face lens. December 2020 saw Snapchat introduce its users to the Cartoon lens, which provided an even more realistic transformation into a Disney Pixar character.
Now, Snapchat has introduced its most realistic take on the filter yet. To use the Cartoon 3D Style Lens, users simply need to press the "search" button on the top left of the camera and type in "Cartoon 3D Style." To join in on the TikTok trend, record and save your video on Snapchat, then upload it to TikTok.
As the most realistic one yet, the latest filter has provided videos online which rival the likes of Flynn Rider and Elsa.
