President Donald Trump may believe his support will lead to a "red wave" in the 2018 midterms, but a new poll shows Democrats have an 11-point advantage over the GOP in a generic House poll.
The CNN poll, released on Wednesday, shows 52 percent of respondents backing a Democrat majority House, while 41 percent wanted to see Republicans retain control in the November midterms.
The results of the poll show Democrats making slight gains over the past two months, compared with the same poll taken in June showing 50 percent of respondents wanting to see a Democrat win 42 percent saying they would vote for a Republican.

Among the issues identified by voters in the poll, which was conducted between August 9-12 and spoke to 1,002 people, 81 percent of respondents said health care was extremely or very important, while 80 percent said the economy was extremely or very important to them.
Also among the important issues to voters were taxes (71 percent saying it was important or very important), immigration (77 percent identifying it as such), corruption (74 percent) and gun policy (73 percent).
Sixty-eight percent of voters also said Trump was an extremely or very important factor in how they would cast their vote.
The poll comes following boasts from President Trump that candidates backed by him would see success in November.
"As long as I campaign and/or support Senate and House candidates (within reason), they will win! I LOVE the people, & they certainly seem to like the job I'm doing," the president tweeted at the beginning of August.
"If I find the time, in between China, Iran, the Economy and much more, which I must, we will have a giant Red Wave!" he added.
Trump also called a victory for his candidate in the Ohio special election, despite the vote count rolling on. He suggested his last-minute rally to back Troy Balderson had tipped the scales in the Republican's favor.
"When I decided to go to Ohio for Troy Balderson, he was down in early voting 64 to 36. That was not good," Trump said in a tweet following the vote.
"After my speech on Saturday night, there was a big turn for the better. Now Troy wins a great victory during a very tough time of the year for voting. He will win BIG in Nov."
