The Football Association (FA) has contacted Jose Mourinho for his comments about referee Anthony Taylor prior to Manchester United's 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

Mourinho had said it would be "difficult" for Manchester-based Taylor to officiate the high-tension tie in the Premier League on Monday night.

The FA has got in contact with the Portuguese as managers are not supposed to speak about officials in the lead up to matches.

Mourinho now has until Friday to respond to the comments before the case is considered by the FA.

Meanwhile, Mourinho's side welcomes Fenerbahce to Old Trafford on Thursday in the Europa League before he returns to Stamford Bridge on Sunday for the first time since being sacked by Chelsea in December 2015.

Antonio Conte, Mourinho's long-term successor in west London, has led Chelsea to fifth in the Premier League, with the Blues currently two points ahead of United.
