Jose Mourinho has hit out at the danger his Manchester United players face on Thursday night by competing on a frozen pitch in the Europa League.

The United squad is in Ukraine for its final group stage match in the European competition, where Mourinho's side faces Zorya Luhansk.

Mourinho has been angered by the scheduling of UEFA, the governing body, as he believes a frozen pitch was inevitable playing in Ukraine in mid-December.

"The hotel is good, the stadium is good, but the pitch is bad," the United manager said. "It is hard and very icy. I think UEFA know the conditions of the pitch and everybody knows that in mid-December the conditions in Ukraine and eastern Europe are more difficult.

"If UEFA are worried about it they should change the fixtures and not allow them to be played in mid-December. If the fifth fixture is here, it's the end of November and not mid-December and that's the problem."

United is second in group A and will qualify for the knockout rounds with a win or a draw.
