Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese is coming off a heartbreaking WNBA Finals loss after her team fell to the Golden State Valkyries in a seven-game series.
Atlanta lost Game 7, 68-63, in San Francisco, as confetti fell and Valkyries players, staff, and fans celebrated the franchise's first WNBA championship. With that emotional loss only a few days behind her, Reese made a surprising announcement on social media about her WNBA offseason.
"i'm dedicating this off season to myself," Reese wrote in a message various accounts reshared on X.

The WNBA's next season won't arrive until next year, with the draft occurring in mid-April and the regular season starting in early May.
The surprising aspect of Reese's message is that she appears to be prioritizing her personal life and stepping back from some of her usual offseason activities. However, she is coming off the best season she's had in her three years in the WNBA.
Reese averaged 16.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game in the regular season. She led the league in rebounding for her third straight season. Reese also earned All-WNBA Second Team, WNBA All-Defensive First Team, and WNBA Defensive Player of the Year honors for her overall body of work.
Along with that, she helped power the Dream to the No. 4 seed in the WNBA Playoffs, with Atlanta sweeping the Washington Mystics in the first round, then the 2024 champion New York Liberty in the semifinals.
Reese and the Dream then went the full seven games against the Valkyries in a historic WNBA Finals matchup, with both franchises vying for their first championship.
The three-time WNBA All-Star averaged 16.1 points, 11 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game during the postseason with a 41.7% field goal percentage.
The seven-game Finals series was a grueling experience for both teams, but Atlanta ultimately came up short. After such an exhausting playoff run, Reese appears ready to enjoy some much-needed downtime.
After that tough Game 7 loss, she also indicated the Dream would be back there again. The lengthy WNBA offseason could allow her to recharge before another challenging season begins in 2027.
