The WNBA draft lottery unveiled that the Dallas Wings will get the first pick of the 2025 draft. The Wings will likely use their coveted pick to snag UConn guard Paige Bueckers.

Wings forward Maddy Siegrist shared what it means for the organization to get the No.1 pick ahead of the 2025 season.

"I think we've seen how impactful lottery picks have been, especially the past few seasons, so we're super excited," Siegrist said.

The Indiana Fever were awarded the last two No. 1 picks in Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark. Both players won Rookie of the Year.

Other teams that were in the running to land the highly-touted No. 1 pick were the Los Angeles Sparks and Washington Mystics. The Sparks will get the second pick of the draft for the second consecutive season, despite having the worst record and the best odds.

The Sparks missed out on Clark last year and will miss out on drafting Buekers this year. Los Angeles could've selected Bueckers last year as the No. 2 pick, but the talented guard decided to return to school for another year.

The Wings, Sparks, and Mystics all fired their coaches following the season. The Mystics will get the fourth pick of the draft as the team also has a vacant general manager role.

"With a new front office and the coaches, it'll be exciting to see who we get," Siegrist said. "And obviously, the lottery pick is going to help as well."

The Chicago Sky, who many believed had a shot at getting the coveted No. 1 pick, lost the opportunity because of a trade with Dallas that allowed the Wings to swap picks with Chicago in this year's draft.

The Sky will get the third pick of the draft. Additionally, the Las Vegas Aces had their first-round pick rescinded for violating league rules.

Bueckers will join Naphessa Collier and Breanna Stewart as some of the best players to come out of UConn. Collier and Stewart recently went head to head in the 2024 WNBA Finals.

Siegrist, who is heading into her third season in the league, also shared some advice for the incoming class as players navigate their first professional year in the WNBA.

"There's a lot of ups and downs in your first season so really lean on your teammates and your support system," she said. "Just learn as much as you can as rookie."
