J.T. Poston entered the final round of the Memorial Tournament with a four-shot lead, but found himself in serious trouble after his fourth bogey of the day which came on No. 13.

The bogey put him one behind leader Ryan Gerard, who shot a final-round 68. Despite losing five shots to his playing partner through the first 13 holes, Poston made it clear he wasn't going to give up.

"I'm not a quitter, so I hung in there and I just told myself. I mean, I hit a great putt on 13, right where I wanted and just didn't fall. But I told myself on 14 tee, I was one back with five to go, still felt like I had a chance. I needed to play the last five holes really well," he said while sitting next to Jack Nicklaus, who created Muirfield Village, which hosts the tournament.

After falling one behind, Poston immediately bounced back on No. 14 with a birdie before finding another on No. 15. Trailing Gerard by one shot entering the final hole, the Georgia native rolled in his third birdie in the closing final five holes to send the tournament into a playoff.

"I told myself I knew I was going to be shaking Mr. Nicklaus's hand walking off 18 no matter what, and I want to be proud of the effort when I did," Poston said. "So just to do it the way that I did, birdieing three of the last five, is a dream come true and something I'll certainly carry with me the rest of my career."

He eventually defeated Gerard in a playoff for his fourth career PGA Tour win and first since October 2024.
