The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that left-handed reliever Alex Vesia is away from the team due to a "deeply personal family matter." His status for the World Series is currently unknown.
"It's with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter," the statement read. "The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date."

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who spoke to reporters shortly after the team's announcement, provided a little more information on the matter.

“I think right now we’re in the mode of trying to understand the process, the rules — a way that we can sort of try to navigate the roster," Roberts said. "I think we have a little bit of time … to finalize our roster. But yeah, we’re going through the process of trying to backfill his spot on the roster.”
Roberts was also asked if Vesia would potentially be available at some point down the line in the World Series.
"I think we're just going day to day," Roberts said, "with really no expectations."
Vesia has been a key member of the Dodgers' bullpen all season long and especially in the postseason.

He's made seven appearances this postseason, the last six of which have been scoreless. Overall, he's 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA across 4.2 innings this October.
Vesia has been one of four high-leverage relievers the Dodgers have trusted this postseason. He and right-hander Roki Sasaki have been the top two relievers, with right-hander Blake Treinen and left-hander Anthony Banda also used in high-leverage spots.
The Dodgers will likely be without Vesia for at least the start of the World Series, which begins on Friday night in Toronto. The team will then provide further updates on Vesia's status as the series goes on.
