Lucas Giolito will enter the 2025 season with uncertainty about his future, but he's been here before.

Giolito, who's working his way back from a serious army injury, is set to hit free agency next offseason. The Boston Red Sox pitcher opened up about his situation during a recent appearance on Rob Bradford's "Baseball Isn't Boring" podcast.

"My first contract year, it was definitely on my mind," Giolito said. "I started the (2023 season) with the White Sox, traded at the deadline, the Angels for a month. Giolito signed with Boston before last season intending to be one of the Red Sox's top starters. A significant right elbow injury wiped out his entire campaign, but he expects to be ready to start this season in the rotation.

And the Red Sox might need him, as starters Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford both are dealing with concerning injuries.
