Kristian Campbell has the ability to be a great player for the Boston Red Sox, and one top MLB analyst believes he'll live up to the hype right away.

In a predictions piece published Thursday, Keith Law of The Athletic picked Campbell to win the American League Rookie of the Year Award. Campbell, a consensus top 10 prospect in baseball, projects as Boston's second baseman of the future.

"Campbell won the second base job in the waning days of spring training," Law wrote, "And he's likely to get a long runway even if he starts slow, giving him a big leg up on the competition for this honor."

Law identified New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez, Detroit Tigers pitcher Jackson Jobe and Texas Rangers pitcher Kumar Rocker as other top candidates for the award.

A consensus top 10 prospect in baseball, Campbell got off to a slow start in spring training. But he turned a corner over the last few weeks and looked much more comfortable at the plate and in the field.

As Law noted, Campbell likely will be given a long leash, potentially affording him extra time to accumulate baseball-card stats that factor into ROY voting. With all that said, it'll be interesting to see whether teammate Roman Anthony, the top position prospect in baseball, is promoted early enough to compete for the award.

Anthony and fellow top prospect Marcelo Mayer aren't expected to be on Boston's initial 26-man roster but could push for promotions within the first month.
