The New York Yankees and Cody Bellinger have seen negotiations stall, and according to an insider, the team has explored potential trades in case a deal does not develop.

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Bellinger and the Yankees are at an impasse over the length of a contract. New York has offered a five-year deal worth around $155 million, though Bellinger is pushing for seven years, and little progress has been made toward a resolution.

Amid the stalemate, the Yankees have reportedly explored the trade market, which features a good number of quality options, though no major trade has materialized.

According to the insider, the Yankees enquired about Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert, who has been a player widely available on the trade market.

"The Yankees are also looking at the trade market, but that isn’t exactly stocked with great options. They’ve checked in on underachieving White Sox outfielder Luis Robert, according to sources, and also Cubs star second baseman Nico Hoerner (as Pat Ragazzo of On SI reported), as well as at least a couple others," Heyman wrote for the New York Post.

Robert is a former All-Star who has won a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger award. He is only 28 years old, though, since 2023, he has put up back-to-back 1.4 bWAR seasons.

The Cuban outfielder would be a reclamation for the Yankees, who do need an outfielder, but there is a good amount of risk in dealing for him. He is a right-hander who has not had more than 14 home runs in a season other than 2023, when he hit 38.

What are the other options for the Yankees if Bellinger leaves?

Other than Robert, the Yankees could end up chasing star Bo Bichette or Kyle Tucker, two options that might be more expensive.

"The Yankees like Bichette, and he’s right-handed, which is a slight preference, but he may fit the Phillies and others even better. (The Post reported Bichette was to meet Monday with Philly.) The Yankees are said more 'on the periphery' of talks regarding Tucker, with the Dodgers, Jays, and Mets seeming more likely for MLB’s No. 1 free agent," Heyman added.

If the Yankees are hesitant to sign Bellinger at $30 million AAV, it is hard to envision them paying more for another player, making a trade for Robert more likely than a move for Bichette or Tucker.
