A couple of programs that made the College Football Playoff last season are struggling this fall.

Texas A&M's fall has been the most surprising. The Aggies fell to 4-5 on Saturday with a 17-9 loss on the road to No. 21 South Carolina.

Tulane's struggles this season are more reasonable. The Green Wave lost head coach Jon Sumrall to the Florida Gators after the CFP. The Green Wave fell to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in American conference play on Saturday after a 60-10 loss to Tulsa.

Following the 50-point loss, Tulane athletic director David Harris issued a statement, calling the way the team played "unacceptable."

"Today's performance by our football program was unacceptable, and far below the standard that we have come to expect in recent years," Harris wrote in the statement. "I understand the frustration and disappointment that our supporters feel. I am embarrassed by what transpired on the field in front of our student-athletes' families, alumni, fans and the entire Tulane community.

"While any loss is difficult to accept, today's defeat was particularly alarming given the point differential. Our play was not representative of the work, discipline and sacrifice made by those who established the standard we expect from Tulane Football."

Harris noted that earlier this week he expressed his frustration with the way the program has performed this season. He suggested it was Tulane's responsibility to "respond with urgency" for the remainder of the season.

"Our student-athletes and staff have owned what happened, will evaluate it thoroughly and show meaningful improvement in the work ahead," Harris wrote.

Tulane promoted Will Hall from pass game coordinator to head coach after Sumrall left for Florida. Given Harris' statement, Hall is no doubt feeling pressure to at least win two of the three remaining games and become bowl eligible.

Tulane will finish its season against Rice, North Texas and South Florida.
