On Saturday, North Carolina State became the first ACC program to fire a head coach this season, parting ways with Dave Doeren after a 31-28 loss to Stanford in Week 8.

Another ACC coach is facing pressure to win in Week 9 to save his job.

A source told On3's Pete Nakos that Saturday's game is a "must-win" contest for Florida State head coach Mike Norvell. The 3-4 Seminoles will play the 4-3 Clemson Tigers at home on Saturday.

Amid another trying season for the Noles, FSU president Richard McCullough wrote a letter addressing the fan base. He suggested the results on the field are not matching the expectations Florida State has for the program.

"We are not asking you to ignore the results," he wrote, via ESPN. "We are committed to changing them. And we are not asking you to believe that everything is fine. We know it isn't. We are fully committed to building lasting success at Florida State."

On Wednesday, Norvell responded to McCullough's message. Norvell said he's trying to put FSU on a path to get better.

"Grateful for the leadership of President McCullough. We definitely stay in touch; we talked last week for a good amount of time. I appreciate him, appreciate his vision for Florida State, his passion for Florida State," Norvell said, via the Tallahassee Democrat.

"We all have a job to do. At the end of the day, my job is to make sure that this football team is continuing to grow, to get better, to perform and go out there and get the desired results. That's what we all aspire for on a daily basis."

Norvell is 41-38 overall and 23-28 in ACC play during his seven seasons with FSU. His best season came in 2023 when the Noles finished with a 13-1 record. Florida State went 2-10 in 2024 and finished 5-7 in 2025.
