After weeks of speculation about Mike Norvell's future at Florida State, the school officially fired its head coach this past weekend.
Norvell's firing came amid FSU's struggles in the current season and a disappointing 10-22 overall record since 2024.
Following Norvell's firing, Rick Stockstill, who was hired as director of scouting in 2024, took over as interim head coach. Meanwhile, the Seminoles will look to hire a full-time head coach, and Always College Football's Greg McElroy highlighted several potential candidates to fill the vacancy.

He mentioned a potential Florida State reunion with Jimbo Fisher. He also spotlighted Duke head coach Manny Diaz, who won the ACC last season, as well as SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee and Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham. However, Lashlee and Dillingham might be locked in at their current programs.
McElroy pointed out that Lashlee signed with SMU through 2032 at "top dollar." He also mentioned that Dillingham turned down a chance to discuss the job at Michigan and signed a new five-year deal with ASU, averaging around $7.5 million.

McElroy suggested that Florida State should "really take a look at" Georgia Bulldogs defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann. He's 36 and doesn't have experience as a college football head coach.
However, McElroy believes Schumann's "mindset" from working on Kirby Smart's coaching staff could make him an intriguing candidate.
Smart began as head coach in 2016, and Schumann has been part of his coaching staff the entire time. Schumann began as the team's inside linebackers coach, before becoming co-defensive coordinator and eventually taking over as defensive coordinator.
Schumann has gained considerable experience under Smart, who has turned Georgia into one of college football's premier programs since taking over in 2016. The Bulldogs have won back-to-back national championships during Smart's tenure, making Schumann an interesting option for the FSU job if they follow McElroy's suggestion.
That said, McElroy believes Florida State's first call should be to Duke's Manny Diaz because of his defensive background and extensive experience in the ACC. He also said Diaz is "familiar with the league and he can recruit."
Georgia remains among the top teams in college football, ranked No. 2 overall in the AFCA Coaches and AP Top 25 polls after defeating rival SEC school Florida this past weekend, 27-8.
The Bulldogs are also ninth nationally in total defense, allowing just 272.6 yards per game. In addition, Georgia holds opponents to an average of 14.9 points per game, which is the 11th-best in the country.
As of this writing, there haven't been reports that FSU is pursuing Schumann for the head coaching job. However, they often say defense wins championships.
That might make a solid case for FSU to consider Schumann, who has spent his coaching career learning under one of college football's most successful head coaches.
