The 2025 college football season is already underway with the big first week of games coming up on Saturday, August 30. For the Iowa Hawkeyes, it will be a chance to get back on track after a disappointing 2024 campaign.
Kirk Ferentz and company put in a lot of work during the offseason. One of the biggest issues for the team last year was at the quarterback position.
To help fix those issues, Ferentz went out into the transfer portal and brought in two intriguing names. Both Mark Gronowski and Hank Brown were added in transfer additions from South Dakota State and Auburn respectively.

Gronowski appears to be the likely starter for Iowa this season. He is coming off of a 2024 year that saw him complete 60.9 percent of his passes for 2,721 yards, 23 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, while also running for 380 yards and 10 touchdowns.

With that being said, the Hawkeyes are a relatively unknown team heading into this season. No one knows what exactly to expect from them.
A new projection has been made for Iowa football that would completely shock the college football world.
The Athletic recently released their projections for the College Football Playoff picture and all bowl games. When it came to Iowa, they shockingly predicted the team to end up in the playoff. To be exact, the Hawkeyes were projected to be the No. 9 ranked team in the playoff bracket.
Very few people would make that kind of projection for Iowa. It's a stunning idea that the Hawkeyes could make a run to the College Football Playoff.
However, the fact of the matter is that the offense has improved and Iowa has always prided itself on the defensive side of the ball. If the offense can take the big leap forward that it looks capable of making, the Hawkeyes have big-time potential.

It will be interesting to see what Iowa can actually accomplish during the upcoming season. This is a lot of hype and a high expectation for the team, but it should excite the Hawkeyes' fan base about potentially being back on the map as a contender.
Everything for Iowa will kick off on Saturday with a matchup at home against the UAlbany Great Danes.
