Oklahoma is looking to make some changes on the offensive side of the ball for 2026.

Per Josh Callaway of 247 Sports, the Sooners are firing tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley. Finley had been with the program since 2021.

"Breaking: Oklahoma is firing tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley after five seasons, sources confirm to Sooners Illustrated," Callaway posted on X.

Finley played tight end at Oklahoma from 2004 to 2007. He was hired as the tight ends coach at OU in 2021. He served as co-offensive coordinator and offensive coordinator in 2024. He went back to coaching tight ends in 2025.

Following the loss to Alabama, Sooners head coach Brent Venables suggested the coaching staff was partly to blame for the early exit in the CFP. He suggested changes to the offense would be coming for 2026.

"I thought we were efficient throwing the ball, but they're going to stack the box and not let you run it, too," Venables said, via USA Today. "Both of us ran for under two yards a carry. Got to get better there. That's going to be a tremendous focus for us moving forward."

If Oklahoma can find another gear on offense to complement a strong defense, the Sooner could be a threat to make a run in the CFP next season.
