Outside of the CFP, the SEC has not performed well. No. 14 Vanderbilt lost to No. 23 Iowa 34-27 in the ReliaQuest Bowl. No. 19 Virginia beat Missouri 13-7 in the Gator Bowl.
No. 21 Houston defeated LSU 38-35 in the Texas Bowl. Illinois knocked off Tennessee 30-28 in the Music City Bowl.
College football fans on social media grilled the SEC for its performance in the postseason.
"SEC getting abused in bowl games is a tale as old as time," wrote a fan. "Almost like someone was screaming from the rooftops all season long how grossly overrated they were and the general public was mislead by rampant ESPN propaganda and lazy AP voters who don’t watch CFB."
"Crazy how Vanderbilt can go 10-2 in the SEC and can’t stop an Iowa offense that has never been prolific my entire life," argued a fan.
"I’m starting to think the gap between the Big Ten and SEC is bigger than we thought These Big Ten teams are flat out bigger, faster, and stronger," posted another.
"Guys, the SEC is so mid. How did we all just let them get 5 teams into the playoff?" asked a poster.
"The SEC should have had 2, maybe 3 teams in the playoff. What a joke," believes a fan.
"The SEC moves to 0-5 in its OOC bowl games against P4 opponents, and has a 0.389 OOC bowl record against P4 opponents over the last two seasons Someone remind me why the SEC is still so mighty in the NIL era Right, because it’s ESPN’s cash cow," posted another.
The SEC is guaranteed to get another win during the bowl season. Ole Miss will play No. 3 Georgia in the CFP quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl on Thursday.
