On November 15, 2025, the Texas A&M Aggies agreed to a contract extension with head coach Mike Elko amid a 9-0 start before playing South Carolina.
The Aggies would trail the Gamecocks 30-3 at halftime of that game before coming back to win 31-30. Texas A&M would defeat Samford the next week to go 11-0. Since the win over Samford, the Aggies have gone 4-7, including a 17-9 loss to South Carolina on Saturday.
One of the main concerns for the Texas A&M fanbase amid the downturn has been the play of quarterback Marcel Reed. He entered Saturday's game having thrown for 1,390 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

On Saturday, Reed went 25 of 43 passing for 251 yards. He added eight yards on the ground.
During his postgame news conference, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko gave his analysis of Reed's play on Saturday, saying he thought Reed played his best game of the year against South Carolina.
"I thought he (Reed) played well... I thought that was his best game of the year, and I thought we operated, for the most part, better than we have for most of the year," Elko said, via TexAgs.
Texas A&M had to settle for four field goal attempts, converting three of them.
Aggies fans on social media reacted to Elko's comments, with some questioning how Reed's best game resulted in nine points.
"He played well? 9 points is playing well? I appreciate loyalty but this might be a bit too much," wrote a fan.
"Best game of the year? Mike is overwhelmed right now. Change qb and fire OC," argued a poster.
"You said he was your best chance to win yet the wins aren’t coming. Give someone else a shot. We’re playing for nothing this year, best to figure out what you have on the roster and look forward to next year," suggested a fan who wants to see a quarterback change.
"Marcel’s “best game of the year.” = ZERO touchdowns. It’s the little things, right Coach?!" posted another.
"Reed completed 58 percent of his passes and rushed for 8 yards. Had no touchdowns. The only bright spot is no picks," wrote a fan.
"That’s the problem. The best he can do is not enough," wrote another.
