The No. 13 Texas Tech Red Raiders are making a change at quarterback before hosting No. 22 Arizona on Saturday.
Following the decision to exclude Brendan Sorsby from the team this summer, Texas Tech turned to junior quarterback Will Hammond. The Red Raiders have had mixed results with Hammond. He's thrown for 1,561 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Hammond most recently threw for 227 yards and one interception in TTU's 37-24 loss on the road to Cincinnati in Week 8, a defeat that prompted Texas Tech booster Cody Campbell to comment that there were no excuses for losing to the Bearcats.

Per ESPN's Pete Thamel, the Red Raiders will turn to former UCF, Boston College, and Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos against Arizona. The news on Saturday morning came after Thamel had previously reported both Castellanos and Hammond would receive significant playing time on Saturday.
"It will be Thomas Castellanos starting today at quarterback for Texas Tech, per ESPN sources," Thamel posted on X.
Castellanos has completed three passes this season for 45 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He's run for 65 yards and two scores.
Following the loss to Cincinnati, TTU head coach Joey McGuire said he planned to simplify the offense for Hammond.
“You do start cutting full-field reads down to a lot of half-field reads, which is a lot of college football,” McGuire said, via the Dallas Morning News. “One thing that he does well is like our double slants and different things where he gets the ball out fast, he’s done really well at that.”
The Red Raiders are 6-1 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 play. Texas Tech will likely need to win out and win the Big 12 championship to make the College Football Playoff. The quarterback change for Saturday signals a sense of urgency for the offense.
