The UConn Huskies have reportedly given head coach Dan Hurley a lucrative contract extension to keep him coaching the team for the foreseeable future.
On Friday afternoon, 247Sports' Jon Rothstein reported that Hurley had signed a two-year contract extension. According to Rothstein, the deal will keep Hurley as UConn head coach through the 2031-32 season. An official announcement had yet to occur, but the extension will reportedly keep Hurley among the country's highest-paid head coaches.
Hurley previously turned down a lucrative head coaching job with the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, choosing to continue as UConn's head coach. In July 2024, UConn signed him to a six-year, $50 million contract, per CT Insider.

The reported extension makes plenty of sense, as UConn clearly wants to keep Hurley leading its basketball program for years to come. Hurley, 53, has continued the championship tradition established by legendary coach Jim Calhoun, guiding UConn to three Final Four appearances in the past four seasons.
He coached UConn to back-to-back championships and has helped shape multiple college players into NBA players, including Stephon Castle, Donovan Clingan, and Cam Spencer. Hurley has followed in predecessor Jim Calhoun's footsteps by continuing to produce incredible results for the program.

The 2026-27 season will feature a much different roster for the Huskies, which lost starters Tarris Reed Jr. and Alex Karaban to the NBA Draft earlier this year. Despite the significant losses, they are still ranked among the top four or five teams in the AP and Coaches Top 25 polls.
Hurley will have returning standout Braylon Mullins, along with Silas DeMary Jr. and Jayden Ross, ready to make major contributions. He'll also have talented newcomers, including Duke transfer Nikolas Khamenia, Seton Hall transfer Najai Hines, and freshman Colben Landrew.
UConn currently has the third-best odds to win the 2027 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at DraftKings Sportsbook, trailing only the Duke Blue Devils and Illinois Fighting Illini.
UConn begins its regular season against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs on Monday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. ET. While Gardner-Webb isn't considered a strong opponent to begin with, the Huskies will face a challenging schedule of non-conference opponents in the coming months.
That includes rematches against the reigning champion Michigan Wolverines, Elite Eight opponent Duke, and Final Four opponent Illinois as Hurley and the Huskies prepare for another potential run.
