The New York Jets are playing their final game of the season on Sunday, Jan. 4, against the Buffalo Bills, and even though the Jets are already out of the playoffs, season finales are still exciting.

The Jets are heading into the game with a 3-13 record and much room for improvement in the 2026-27 season. On Monday, Dec. 29, head coach Aaron Glenn spoke about the team's blowout 42-10 loss to the New England Patriots the day before and said that "effort was not the issue with that game."

"I thought our guys played all the way to the very end," Glenn added. "What really showed up is they did some things schematically, I thought, that was challenging offensively and defensively that we really have to take a look at and try to hone in on and fix those things. And I would say that some of their players just made plays."

Now, ahead of the season finale, not one, not two but three Jets players are getting punished by the NFL for their actions in the team's game against the Patriots.

Every week, the NFL gives punishments to players for actions that happened during the previous week's games. The NFL states on their official website that these actions are "to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity." Also, before the season each year, the NFL and NFL Players Association agree on the set of game-related rules violations that result in these accountability measures.

On Saturday, Jan. 3, the NFL announced that they're punishing Jets safety Jordan Clark, running back Isaiah Davis and linebacker Jermaine Johnson for actions during the Patriots game. The league is fining Clark $4,703 for "taunting" and "unsportsmanlike conduct" at the 1:39 mark in the second quarter of the game, Davis $5,686 for "use of the helmet" and unnecessary roughness" at the 14:51 mark in the fourth quarter and Johnson $17,389 for a "blow to the head/neck" and "a hit on a quarterback," being Drake Maye, at the 1:39 mark in the second quarter.

There is an appeal process, and "cases are heard by appeals officers and former NFL players, Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster or Jordy Nelson, who are jointly appointed and paid by the NFL/NFLPA." After the final appeal, "the decisions made are final and binding."

None of the players were suspended for their actions, so the punishments won't impact the team's final game of the 2025-26 season.
