The Chicago Bears made a blockbuster trade with the Tennessee Titans for star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons last week, a bold move that shows the Bears are putting all their chips in for a run at the Super Bowl.
The move came right after the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks traded with the Indianapolis Colts for Quenton Nelson. Could a third NFC team be looking to make a major move before the trade deadline on Tuesday to make a push for the postseason?
Chris Simms of Pro Football Talk noted that those in the league are curious if the 49ers are in the market for Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. The move would be surprising, as the 49ers have Christian McCaffrey on the roster. McCaffrey, 30, has rushed for 389 yards and eight touchdowns while adding 251 receiving yards.

San Francisco made a bold move to add McCaffrey before the trade deadline in 2022. The 49ers would go on to make the NFC championship that season and make the Super Bowl in the next season.
The Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard in October and traded defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the 49ers last week. At 2-6, Indianapolis is expected to consider offloading more talent at the trade deadline.
Taylor, 27, is the biggest name the Colts have to trade. He's rushed for 610 yards and eight touchdowns on 148 carries in eight games this season. He's added 202 receiving yards on 21 receptions.
Mike Florio believes the 49ers would move on McCaffrey during the 2027 offseason if they traded for Taylor.
The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants are two obvious options in the NFC for Taylor in the trade market. For San Francisco, adding Taylor would not only help its offense, but keep the running back from joining a team it could face in the postseason.
