"Coach Shanahan and the 49ers organization would like to sincerely thank all first responders involved for their efforts and care. Assistant Head Coach Chris (Foerster) along with team coordinators will handle head coach responsibilities during this period."

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter and Nick Wagoner, Shanahan needed more than 40 stitches in his face after he broke his nose. He also suffered three broken ribs, a broken hand, and a "severe" concussion from the crash.

"Shanahan broke his nose, three ribs, his hand, needed over 40 stitches in his face and suffered a severe concussion during a July 14 car accident when he collided with an SUV near his northern California home," Schefter posted on X.

Training camp is an important time for coaches to evaluate their roster for the upcoming season in addition to implementing schemes for the upcoming season. In addition to head coaching duties, Shanahan is the primary offensive play-caller for the 49ers.

The good news for the 49ers is that Shanahan's injuries are not life-threatening, and it appears he will be ready to lead the team in the regular season. San Francisco boasts one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL. Morris was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons last season.

Per the 49ers' website, this is Foerster's 11th season with the team. It will be his first season as the 49ers' assistant head coach/offensive line coach. Matt Eberflus, assistant head coach of defense for the 49ers, was the head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2022 to 2024.
