The New York Jets suffered another painful defeat on Sunday, falling 28-25 to the previously winless Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. It's bad enough that it was a home loss, but it was also the Jets' second straight defeat, both of which came against division rivals. The result dropped New York to 2-5 on the season, while Miami secured its first win under new head coach Jeff Hafley.
While Hafley secured his first NFL win as Miami's head coach, Glenn dropped to 0-8 against AFC East opponents since taking over for the Jets in 2025. That means Hafley already has more division wins than Glenn, and Sunday was Hafley's first game coaching against a division rival.
"The Jets, this is a major game, very, very important game because it's a divisional game and you're playing against a team that has been 0-for," said CBS Sports' Bryant McFadden after the game. "They're an undermanned team in terms of talent. When you look at the Miami Dolphins, they're in the midst of a rebuild, right? The New York Jets, in terms of the resources, free agency, the draft pick, they have more talent than the Miami Dolphins. But the Dolphins executed better."

"Jeff Hafley currently has more AFC East wins than Aaron Glenn. Think about that. He won an AFC East ballgame before Aaron Glenn, and he only has one career win in his professional head coaching resume," McFadden added. "Trying to understand and figure out the New York Jets reminds me of the first time I saw an algebra problem. I had no answer."

Glenn was hired by the Jets in January 2025 after spending four seasons as the Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator. A former first-round pick by the Jets in 1994, he played eight seasons in New York before beginning his coaching career with the Browns and Saints. His work helped Detroit turn into a powerhouse in the NFC, finishing the 2024 season among the NFL's top 10 defenses in scoring and takeaways.
The Jets gave Glenn a five-year contract to keep him in New York through the 2029 season, earning around $10 million per year. But just two years into his tenure, the results have been bad, and now there are questions about how much longer it'll be before New York hits the reset button again. Glenn is now 5-19 as the Jets' head coach.

Glenn needs to turn things around fast. The Jets host the Raiders next Sunday before visiting the Chiefs and then hosting the Bills. After that, they'll face the Chargers and Dolphins, both on the road, before their Week 13 bye. That's a difficult stretch of games, but the perfect opportunity for Glenn to show there's still life. Those divisional games against Buffalo and Miami, in particular, will be crucial.
