J.K. Dobbins led the Broncos in rushing with 772 yards and four touchdowns on 153 carries before suffering a foot injury in Week 10. RJ Harvey was second in rushing with 540 yards and seven touchdowns on 146 carries.

Per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the New York Jets were so frightened that the Broncos would try to sign running back Breece Hall, even on the transition tag, that they used the franchise tag on the 2022 second-round pick.

The Broncos had a clear connection to Hall via Jets general manager Darren Mougey and Denver running backs coach Louis Ayeni.

"Denver is the reason why the Jets used the franchise tag on Breece Hall rather than the transition tag, according to sources, making sure Denver wouldn't get the opportunity to put together an offer the Jets would refuse to match," Jones wrote.

"A few connections there underline that tango: Jets GM Darren Mougey came from Denver, while Broncos running backs coach Louis Ayeni identified Hall as a high school prospect years ago and recruited him to Iowa State before Ayeni left Ames for Northwestern and eventually the NFL. "

Hall is off the table for Denver, but there are a couple of running backs that Jones thinks the team could sign in free agency. He thinks Kenneth Walker III of the Seattle Seahawks or Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne could be on the table for the Broncos next week.
